DID YOU KNOW? (storm)

Storm Damage DID YOU KNOW? (storm) While thunder won't hurt you-lightning will!

Being a restoration company you will often hear of the doom and gloom associated with storms. But when properly prepared for storms can be really interesting!

Here are a few fun storm facts:

  • In order for there to be a thunder storm you need three things
  • Moisture (to make the clouds and the rain)
  • Unstable air (usually warm air that can rise rapidly)
  • Lift (something able to lift the air, such as fronts, mountains or sea breezes)
  • At any one moment there are nearly 1.800 thunderstorms occurring
  • The lightning produced from thunderstorms kill more people each year than tornadoes do
  • By counting the seconds between the flash of lightning and the clap of thunder you can estimate how many miles away a storm is!

Is your home storm ready?

Storm Damage Is your home storm ready? 24/7/365

As restoration professionals we often see the outcome of a home that wasn’t storm ready and in light of the billowing storm clouds outside of our office window I believe this is a perfect time to reach out with some helpful reminders!

  1. Let everyone in your home know what the plan is in the event of a storm, knowledge is power.
  2. Have furniture placed away from doorways so exit points aren’t blocked and have items arranged so that you could live on a single floor if need be. Think of warm clothing, blankets and whatever else you may need close at hand.
  3. Delicate items and those of value should be kept off of walls or shelves and placed in safe places, especially during storm season.
  4. Make sure you have insurance with details and a hard copy easily accessible, it’s a sad truth that many people don’t have as much coverage as they need when a catastrophe strikes.

It’s always sad to talk about the what-if’s involved with emergency storm situations, but being prepared is one way you can assure your life will get back to normal as quickly as possible.

Hurricane Harvey Storm Response

Storm Damage Hurricane Harvey Storm Response Water line from Hurricane Harvey

SERVPRO of Flower Mound was activated for storm response after Hurricane Harvey hit in Houston, Texas along with hundreds of other SERVPRO franchises across the nation.

Hurricane Harvey was devastating for so many families, we were honored to help them with the restoration of their homes during this time. Although the water didn't reach attic level in this home you can see from the photo how high the water rose in this neighborhood. The family was without power for quite a while and a lot was lost due to the storm. Majority of the home was gutted due to the high water so this family will almost be starting over.

It's heartbreaking to see this happen to so many families but for us it's a very humbling experience.

Busted Windows, Falling Drywall and Insulation Isn't Our Idea of a Fun Friday Night

7/20/2017 (Permalink)

Storm Damage Busted Windows, Falling Drywall and Insulation Isn't Our Idea of a Fun Friday Night Broken windows, fallen ceiling, and debris from outside laying on the floor after the storm.

When a severe storm came through Flower Mound several homes and businesses were affected. After the storm board ups, demo, water restoration, roof tarps, and debri haul off were required. All of these were required on this one home.

The hail not only affected the roof causing the ceiling in multiple rooms to fall in but the windows were busted out which caused debris from the outdoors to fly in. You'll notice in the picture a tree branch is laying among the drywall and insulation on the floor.

Our highly trained team boarded up all of the broken windows, removed the debris, restored the structure, and cleaned the carpets. The customer was surprised at the difference from after the storm to when we completed the scope of work. SERVPRO of Flower Mound is here to help 24/7!
